How we verify

Licensed Elevator Index is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

• NY State Department of Labor: Elevator Contractor License (data.ny.gov jrac-r9vc) — Elevator Contractor and Elevator Inspection Contractor licenses with business name, address, phone, status and expiry, published on Open NY.
• TDLR All Licenses file (data.texas.gov 7358-krk7) — Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation licenses including Elevator Contractor, with business address, phone and expiry.
• NYC Department of Buildings: elevator safety — DOB's official pages on periodic inspections, CAT1 and CAT5 tests. We link to them; NYC DOB agencies are not listed here.

We download the New York State Department of Labor Elevator Contractor License file (Open NY) and keep rows with status Active and an expiry date on or after the day we checked. We also load the Texas TDLR license file and keep Elevator Contractor rows with a Texas business address whose expiry date is on or after the day we checked. Expired or other-status licenses are simply left out; we never label a named business as unlicensed.

The NYC Department of Buildings publishes a license file, but its elevator agency rows are almost entirely individual inspectors without business details, so DOB agencies are not listed. Confirm a DOB-approved agency with DOB directly.

Licensed here means the license is active in the state file on the date shown. It says nothing about quality, insurance, inspection results or violations, which we do not publish.

Lists are alphabetical. We do not rate or rank. Featured companies appear in a labelled box and never change the order.

What a badge means

License active: the business appears in the New York State Department of Labor elevator contractor file with status Active, or in the Texas TDLR license file as an Elevator Contractor, with an expiry date on or after the day we checked. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. The state files update regularly; we re-pull them weekly.
